According to The Washington Post, The Personal History of David Copperfield is a supremely effective ensemble piece, stuffed to bursting with brilliant supporting performances by Hugh Laurie, Peter Capaldi, Tilda Swinton, Ben Whishaw, Rosalind Eleazar and Benedict Wong. But it looks like it will be some time before most of us get to see it as it is currently on very limited release only in Northern Virginia.
The film is not currently available for streaming, and probably won’t be until 2021. Limited openings such as this are not unusual in the run up to the Oscars, which usually require films to have been released in traditional theaters to be eligible. This rule has been revised for 2021 but only for films that had a previously planned theatrical release.
